When Size Matters: Evolution of Self-Delivery Solutions for Subcutaneous Administration

Date & Time January 22, 2026 • 12:50 PM
Location Pharmapack Learning Labs: 4A89
As biologics grow more complex and self-administration volumes push well beyond traditional limits, the question is no longer whether large-volume subcutaneous delivery is possible — it's how fast the industry can make it a reality. In "When Size Matters: Evolution of Self-Delivery Solutions for Subcutaneous Administration," Paolo Ferrigno of Datwyler, Valerio Ravazzolo of Stevanato Group, and Greg Moakes of LTS Device Technologies present a compelling case for pre-verified, platform-based collaboration as the fastest path to market for large-volume SC delivery systems. Drawing on preliminary functional testing data across 5 mL, 10 mL, and 20 mL cartridge configurations — including break-loose force, gliding force, dose accuracy, delivery time, and hold-up volume results — the presentation demonstrates that accurate, self-administered subcutaneous delivery up to 20 mL is not only achievable, but achievable with the performance and patient-centric specifications modern on-body injectors demand. The key? A reliable ecosystem of pre-verified drug delivery components developed through open, structured collaboration among suppliers before the pharmaceutical company ever enters the picture.
