About this Brochure
As pharmaceutical manufacturers face increasing pressure to reduce the environmental footprint of their packaging supply chains, Datwyler's bio-based flip caps deliver a credible, performance-proven alternative to conventional fossil-based aluminum combination caps. The plastic disc is manufactured from second-generation bio-based polypropylene — certified ISCC PLUS under the mass balance approach, sourced from feedstocks qualifying as waste or residues — and paired with pharma-grade aluminum, one of the most infinitely recyclable materials available. A cradle-to-gate lifecycle assessment conducted per ISO 14067 using OpenLCA and Ecoinvent demonstrates a significant reduction in product carbon footprint compared to standard flip caps, with carbon capture scenarios yielding a net-negative result. Critically, the transition to bio-based materials does not require any change to cap performance: the same sealing integrity, container closure compatibility, and customization portfolio — including 40 standard plastic colors in glossy and matte finishes, five cap designs, and five standard aluminum colors — are maintained across the bio-based range, with all products manufactured in state-of-the-art facilities and tested to the highest pharmaceutical standards.
